What is it about prints that most people shy away from, and to top it up a print on a print outfit is whole beats altogether. Honestly, I was scared of this trend until recently. I could wear one printed outfit and pair some printed earrings or necklace with it—nothing more, nothing less. But if you tell me to go the full-blown print on print, I will chicken out. Print on print means combining two or more prints in your entire outfit. It is not a restriction on how many pieces of printed fabric you are willing to add. They can be two or more. You can also add a printed bag or shoes as per your clothing.
This is not a new trend but has been focused on for the past couple of years. It has always been there by didn’t get the exposure it deserved. If you take a vivid look at some outfits like Japanese Kimonos, Indian authentic sarees, African dresses, you will find print on print almost everywhere. This tells us that it has been a pattern for ages. Let us look at three effortless styles you can pull off using a print-on-print fabric.
Hack1 – Continuation of ONE COMMON COLOUR helps
beautifully bind the whole look together.
This means having a common color theme or one color that will be consistent in your whole styling. If you notice the given picture, you will see that the check trouser and the polka dot shirt have the color light and dark brown as a continuity. The standard color is blue-black and yellow in the second look of florals. And lastly, in the very final picture, you will find a classic red shade. To keep the consistency intact is the whole idea. This will help you pull the entire outfit together and will not look aloof.
Hack 2 – Continuation of SAME PRINT FAMILY in various sizes and spacing of prints
Here, we are talking about the continuity of the styling again. Keeping the prints familiar will ensure that the entire outfit world works well with each other. On the other hand, the difference in the print size and the spacing will create the necessary drama to the style. Look at the pictures and see how all three outfits have the same print but play well with the size/color of the images.
Hack 3 is the most commonly used classic print with graphic design/print.
If you are a newcomer to print on print, this would be the easiest way to start your journey. You pick a classic pattern like polka, checks, paisley and add a slogan or any graphic onto it. This will ensure some street cred kind of style. Have a look at the example given here, a graphic skirt and polka dot top, and in the other case, a polka dot skirt with a graphic tee. If you are still afraid to try this, keep a standard color between the classic and graphic print.
