Bore and Brilliant: How time spent doing nothing changes everything !!

LET THEM ----------------Get Bored

It's ok, It is not our job to entertain them ,somewhere in the middle we have forgotten our upbringing.

I would perpetually hear friends complaining about how their children are getting bored, they have nothing to do.

That’s because we never made them do nothing .

For heaven's sake even Sir Issac Newton was sitting and doing nothing when he discovered gravity !!!

The task of never giving a task to my daughter probably, not consciously but totally unintentionally led to a clean room one day, discovery of so many un-useful things put together in a big transparent box called “THE THINK TANK” which she creates things out of, doing nothing led to an ‘Avid Reader’ though it gave the potterhead glasses, but I would prefer that she has glasses rather than not read.

So above are some of the many benefits of my reply to my child every time she asked me what should I do ....Nothing or Go Figure out

To my astonishment I came across MANOUSH ZOMORODI’S book BORED AND BRILLIANT!!! on my weekly discovery trip to my favourite bookstore. At first I couldn’t believe this topic existed !! it was of course an instant buy, I could totally resonate with the heading.

Monoush is the managing editor of NOTE TO SELF the tech show. She has done cutting-edge research via projects to explain how the spacing out leads to creative explosion in the brain, how unplugging, plugs you to your innate self. In this book she has given live examples and experiments she conducted to show her research. She has given steps on how to stop the busyness in your brain and how to tame your mind to wander away ..which will lead to Brilliance

The Author is asking you to go down the rabbit hole where the power of human thinking and intelligence is stored. The powerhouse everyone has but only few are aware of, it is in every child, mother, human. Everyone can invent, everyone can create. Monoush emphasizes on how time spent doing nothing literally, maybe just staring at your nails takes the mind to the realms and heights of wandering and reaching somewhere one could never expect. This book starts with explaining BOREDOM.

Her own Eureka moment came after she was totally exhausted juggling life, career, motherhood, marriage. Even in that moment of exhaustion her brain was sucked by technology as she would play a game on her phone to relax, unknowingly that’s what was draining her. She has a great QNS session with the creator of the game ‘TWO DOTS’, David Houhusen whose game she was addicted to .

(Well weather gaming is good or bad for you is another blog I’m set to write, after a little more research, I will be able to give the answers )

Zomorodi talks of the perpetual-problem of digitalization and its deterring reverberation. As if we are unaware of the impounding threats you may think, what’s new in this?, we know Glaciers are melting, we know plastic is bad hence we also know digital time is bad BUT I assure you what you may not have thought of the breakthroughs Digital-Detox gives to mankind. It's not just the kids, even we all are addicts. Zomorodi brings out the Brilliant sun at the end of the tunnel of Boredom with her book BORED AND BRILLIANT and how ..

I hope people read this book because we humans have a nature of just jumping off the road when we are about to be hit by a bus ..otherwise they will keep jaywalking in the middle of the road ...comfortably .

What is this life if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare.
