Journey of Pinky Bajaj - The Wellness Counselor

Q1. Tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

I am Pinky Bajaj a Wellness Counselor by profession, I am from a Commerce Background, at the age of 36 I picked up this career of Counseling and currently I am pursuing my Masters in Counseling Psychology.

Talking about myself I am a Mother of two teenagers, currently undoing the conditioning I gave to my children, living my life to the utmost in the here and now, absolutely guilt free and shame free, I every day look at myself and feel proud about myself, that I m getting better than yesterday.

Q2.  What inspired you to take this challenge, and start as a wellness counselor?

It was almost my dream to become a Counsellor in college days, but thought due to taking up commerce I couldn't.
Again the moment I entered this field if Counseling, I can say I was in the most disastrous situation if my life, also almost for good 14 years I was living day in and day out in anxiety, which lead to panic attacks. Where in, I started questioning my self on my existence on this earth and my ikigai of life.

And only through this journey of becoming a Wellness Counselor, I learnt the concept of Self Love, where in I realised, that Self Love is all about repairing your relationship with yourself, the impactful messages which we received from our society and care takers in our childhood, become our subconscious patterns, so this entire journey was a new beginning to "unlearn to learn".

Q3. Why did you choose Insta as your mode of communication?

It was 2020 when I launched my Instagram handle @untangleyourthoughts to create awareness about mental health, I interviewed a lot of psychiatrist, psychologists, celebrity make up artist and many more experts, to bring out their empowering and also to provide their expertise skills to the normal public. It was a lockdown and I thought that Instagram was the best platform to spread awareness.

Q4. What has been your proudest moment?

The Proudest moment for me was the day I accepted that I was in denial for 36 years of my life, and started accepting my emotions, my feelings. It is like how since childhood we are taught to divert ourselves from things or situations than to face them and actually understand the reason behind "why" is it happening.

Q5. How has freelancing helped as a counselor?

I have practiced my Counseling under a psychiatrist for a year, and currently I am a school counselor, I have dealt with all age groups, as my profession is all about one on one counselling session, so free lancing is the best way for me to empower people to navigate their thought process.

Q6. What advice would she give to someone thinking of starting out?

My piece of advice to anyone and everyone would be, any platform you choose to share about your profession, be as authentic as possible, your content needs to be very relatable and simple.
