Meet Komal Jatakia a successful entrepreneur in the matchmaking industry, dedicated to providing personalized and customer-centric services.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your family?
I am Komal Samir Jatakia, born and brought up in a Gujarati family. I’m a B.Com graduate from Mumbai University.
I’m happily married for 22 years to my husband, Mr. Samir Jatakia, the proprietor of Samir Pharma Lab, and blessed with a loving 19-year-old daughter, Raashi Jatakia, who aspires to become a Biomedical Engineer.
We also have rescued pets - Mithu, our parrot, and Cookie, our cat.
Initially, I worked with an insurance company for almost four and a half years.
Then I started working with a renowned matrimony and served as the State Head for almost seven years. After that, I felt like starting my own matrimony, and that’s when Soulmate Destination Matrimony was born.
Have you had any formal training or family business?
No, I did not have any formal training, but my family has always been in business.
My father was in the FMCG business, now retired. I am also married into a business-class family that has been in the pharmaceutical business for the last four decades.
Tell us about your venture and what inspired you to take this challenge and get started?
I started in this field ten years ago with India’s leading matchmaking service for the elite segment. In 2020, I decided to start my own customer-centric matrimony.
I had worked with companies that handled matchmaking very professionally.
However, we wanted to provide a service that is a combination of professionalism and a personal touch.
This led to the inception of Soulmate Destination Matrimony (SDM). Initially, SDM provided only personalized services to the Elite Class segment.
However, in July 2022, we launched our online matchmaking portal, which is open to every segment of society and offers free registration to our clients. We serve our members with worldwide data in personalized and online matchmaking services.
What has been your proudest moment?
Whenever we receive Success Stories, we always feel proud, and it's a celebration for Team SDM.
We had an interesting experience where I was in constant contact with the families of the bride and the groom.
Both had very different criteria and preferences, but I felt like there was something that would make their imperfect match close to perfect.
The groom had settled abroad, but the bride was not willing to leave the country. However, I convinced both to talk to each other just once.
They had a meeting, and I assume they both saw what I saw in them. They were the right match for each other. It took a lot of convincing, but it was worth it.
The bride and groom are happily married now, and I am glad for the role I played in their marriage.
What are some of the biggest challenges you faced as an entrepreneur?
I think the biggest challenge that all entrepreneurs face is trying to differentiate themselves from other companies in the same domain.
In the matchmaking market, there are a lot of companies operating at a much larger scale than SDM.
My biggest challenge is to be seen and be visible among all those business tycoons and establish a strong foundation for my company.
We are still working on it, and we are optimistic about the tremendous outcomes of our efforts.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting out?
Be confident and don't give up. Don't be afraid of failures; instead, learn from them and come back stronger.
Also, learn as much as you can about your field because knowledge is your best asset.
Given a chance, would you alter any of your life decisions?
No, I don't think so. Any decision I have taken in my life, I am solely responsible for it, and I don't like having regrets.
I believe that even in my wrong decisions, I've always learned something, and that is what has made me a better person. So, I wouldn't want to alter any of my life decisions.
