I have taken 2 years of formal training for my profession of being an image consultant and a soft skills trainer.
I have also done entrepreneurship courses also with PGDBM in Marketing from NMIMS for our family business
Tell us about your venture and what inspired you to take this challenge, and get started.
After completing my bachelor's in Management, I wanted to follow a standard path that everyone was following (Do MBA).
While I was preparing for the entrance exam soon I realized, this entrance exam is not my cup of tea. I still prepared and appeared for entrance.
I had decided, if I don't get into the top 10 B-Schools in Mumbai, I am not doing MBA. And obviously, I didn't get into the top 10 B- School ;)
Then the question was if not an MBA, What else???
While I was thinking and researching new career options, I was on a family trip to Singapore Malaysia Thailand. One incident that happened there changed my life.
And that incident was... Our entire group of 25 people was allocated a different dining area which was at a distance from the dining area where all the other guests from various nationalities were sitting. I asked the server "Why we have been allocated a different dining area?" He replied saying with irritation " because you Indians disturbed other privacy". And I was taken aback, this is the Image of India? (I felt insulted and ashamed).
That made me realize because of a few Indians the entire nation has developed an unpleasant image.
And that unpleasant Image is somewhat true because we Indians genuinely lack presentation skills, and communication skills; hence most of the time something that is invented by an Indian is presented by a foreigner in front of the world.
This incident was troubling me the entire time, and I wanted to solve this issue.
That's when the universe conspired to take me to my destiny. I read in Newspaper about a new career option in "Image Management", and I hopped on to it. It was 2 years of vigorous learning and unlearning of grooming, dressing, body language, etiquette, dining etiquette, communication skills, soft skills, and a lot more. And I was a transformed person and a Certified Image Consultant and Soft Skills trainer.
Since then I have been training individuals to be the best version of themselves. In the last 8 years, I have trained over 10000+ people across India.
While all these things were happening, I was working in our family business and heading marking, which I still continue to date.
I have done multiple entrepreneurship courses, sales courses, and Public speaking courses. And I did a Part-time MBA from NMIMS to grab the knowledge and skip the entrance.
I also did multiple certified courses related to branding and psychology.
And I today work with entrepreneurs, professionals, freelance to build their personal brands and a powerful image (inner confidence and excellent physical presentation), by combining my image knowledge, management, and marketing experience. And I also get invited to B-Schools to train students on campus to corporate. ;)
What has been your proudest moment?
My most satisfying moment: I had a client (teenager) who was forcefully sent to me for coaching by her mother to learn social and presentation skills.
This teen was extremely rebellious and had absolutely no interest in learning anything. This teen at the end of the session said "these sessions were the best part of my life".
What are some of the biggest challenges you faced as an entrepreneur?
When I started with Image Management, I was one of the youngest in India and the first one beyond Thane city.
And Image Management being a very new concept people just didn’t understand what I do and there was a need for my services. Making people realize the need for my services was the biggest challenge.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting out?
Don't wait for perfection, just start. Perfection is a myth. Progress is important not perfection.
