Let's get to know Swati Chandran, a thriving entrepreneur in hair oil industry.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your family?
I am a Law graduate, Fashion designer and an entrepreneur. I have 2 kids aged 22 and 19. All my life I have been into garments, but the hair oil business was a turning point in my life.
Have you had any formal training or family business?
I was making hair oil for many years for myself and my daughter. The recipe was passed to me by my mom.
Tell us about your venture and what inspired you to take this challenge, and get started?
BACK TO ROOTS is an organic brand of hair oils. There are 8 types of hair oils each resolving a particular hair issue. This venture was inspired when my school friend benefitted after using hair oil a couple of times on her coloured and damaged hair and this gave me the confidence to start it. After this, there is no looking back as more and more people have benefitted from this.
What has been your proudest moment?
My proudest moments are many when people come to me and give me feedback as to how their hair fall has stopped, how they have got relief from dandruff, and how their chemically treated hair is back healthy and shiny.
What are some of the biggest challenges you faced as an entrepreneur?
Marketing and social media were challenges since making a post on Canva or hashtags used on Instagram were all new to me. But my kids always supported me in all of them and I also have started doing myself.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting out?
If you are convinced about your idea, JUST DO IT. Everything else follows.
Given a chance would you alter any of your life decisions?
Yes, I would definitely do as CHANGE IS CONSTANT.
