With the onset of issues such as global warming (which is rising at an alarming rate) and climate change, many factors regarding the environment have come into picture. Pollution is a global problem, with plastic pollution being the most common form. Plastic pollution is a self-made crisis that is slowly engulfing our earth with all sorts of harmful chemicals by exploitatively consuming the artificially produced natural resources. To counter these global issues, many start-ups have come forward with eco-friendly, sustainable and biodegradable products.
Ritika Sadana, an eco-entrepreneur and the founder of EcoKarma is reaching out to you to save the environment and helping people follow a sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle.
Born & brought up in the stunning peaks of Dehradun, Ritika has forever been closely attached to heart and treasured it as her eternal home. Her love for animals, especially dogs became a passion to help, protect and provide safe, healthy care for them and make it sustainable. With her past working experience in NGOs, she understood the hurdles of funding every year to run the good work. Wanting to fulfill her preadolescence dream of a puppy shelter, she desired to keep it sustainable so it never accumulates that responsibility of uncertainty depending completely on donations. She thought of starting a business which protects the environment and makes her dream project run smoothly.
Ritika was inspired by this vision and started EcoKarma with the desire to do something in return for Mother Earth.
EcoKarma is based out of Dehradun operating with the motive of Arthika-Kutumba-Samaja Vikas - to promote sustainable living and empower women with financial independence by providing them work, ensuring financial security of the families and in turn the security of the society.
“We train and take the services of the Self-Help Groups for the manufacturing of our products and employ EWS youth for the marketing. Through this integration, we are not only creating a healthy environment but also creating a better life cycle for the families through their economic upbringing”.
Ritika promotes local products and artisans for people to start a sustainable lifestyle by using eco-friendly and biodegradable alternatives. She emphasizes that “We cannot quickly start with zero waste living but we all can strive to produce low waste at an individual level and for this, efforts or initiatives have to be taken up on a daily basis”. She also says “focus should be on 5R’s: Reduce-Reuse-Recycle-Reprocess (Up-cycle) & Refuse.”
One of the most reasonable ways to oppose plastic pollution is to live by model and secure the creations you buy are created with both values and the atmosphere in mind and EcoKarma is a benchmark for the same!
