Top 5 Documentaries and Books on Sustainable Living

Movies, short films, and sustainability documentaries play a huge role in making us understand important issues that directly deal with our planet and talk about how our ideal conduct should be. Here are some documentaries and books that will give us insights into how best we can approach sustainable living.

Documentaries on Sustainable Living:

1. Sustainable

It is an in-depth study of our food system and how it affects our health. Throws up sustainable food options that are organic and good for us as well as our planet. Probably the most important documentary from the ‘Sustainable’ Point of view.

2. Minimalism

Focuses upon important things. Low waste living and living only on things that are impossible to live without. Shares a very important message about sustainable living.

3. The True Cost

About the Fashion Industry and the ill-effects of its wastage. Deals directly with our day-to-day life, so very relevant in terms of normal life & sustainability.

4. A Plastic Ocean

Showcases the ill-effects of plastic on marine wildlife and on those who live on plastic-filled islands. Quite direct and simple.

5. Before the Flood

A documentary where Leonardo DiCaprio interviews prominent scientists about global warming but doesn’t advise us laymen on how to prevent it, so it is low on sustainability.

Books on Sustainable Living:

There is more than one sustainable way of living a low-waste, planet-positive life. Here are some important sustainable books that talk about sustainability:

1. The Story of Stuff- Annie Leonard

A must-read for beginners, this book is all about manufacturing the things we use and elaborates on toxic chemicals, water pollution, and carbon emission. A very sustainable read for all ages.

2. Cradle to Cradle – Michael Braungart and William McDonough

This book talks about all such products that have been designed to end up in landfills. It also underlines the importance of reuse and recycling with some real-world examples. A very sustainable dialogue in terms of right practices.

3. Zero Waste Home – Bea Johnson

The most popular book about the zero-waste movement is called the ‘Bible of Zero-waste living’ in all walks of life. It also gives ways and means to achieve this, hence is very relevant in terms of sustainable living.

4. Losing Earth – A recent history by Nathaniel Rich

This book is all about the measures taken by the man (such as the Kyoto Protocol) about climate change in the last 50 years. History always helps establish some firm groundwork for new research, so this book is very relevant in terms of its sustainable usefulness.

5. This Changes Everything – Naomi Klein

This book demystifies some of our ideas about living green but still encourages us to continue it in a better way. Very pertinent and sustainable commentary upon capitalization and its effects upon climate.

To summarise, these sustainable documentaries and sustainable books can help you adopt sustainable living practices to live a great life by contributing to earth. Bookmark this blog as we all must be more informed and make informed choices.

As a blogging community, we feel it is important to discuss ways of sustainable living. You can start guest blogging with your own ideas and insights, share them with us and be a changemaker.
