Are you all set for the big day? Each pregnancy is different and hence there are chances that your baby might arrive sooner, so it is always ideal to have your maternity bag ready.
Here is a checklist for what to pack in your maternity bag. This list will help you ensure that you have everything you need. Though we do recommend that you do check what your hospital provides ahead of time to ensure you are packing everything you might need. Once your maternity bag is ready, keep it handy.
Maternity bag for Mum before/ during Delivery:
Dressing gown
A soft and comfortable dressing gown is always a must for you to roam around in it feeling comfortable.
A pair of Socks
Many new moms prefer a pair of socks to keep their feet warm and cozy after giving birth. It helps you recover and stay warm post-delivery.
Slippers or Flip Flops
You will need slippers or flip flops that are comfortable and are easy to put on and take out as you walk around the hospital ward or for you to use in the shower.
Body lotion or Massaging Oil
You are a new mum-to-be and a little relaxing massage goes a long way in making you feel better and calm. For such times, keep a lotion or massaging oil handy in your maternity bag.
Water Spray and Sponge
A lot of women feel a little hot during labor, will all the hormones raging and changing. Spray some cold water on your face and then use a sponge to cool yourself down.
Comfortable Pillows
We assume that your hospital will provide you with pillows, but they may or may not be of your liking. And hence it’s always ideal to throw in a comfortable pillow of your choice in the maternity bag.
Eye mask and Earplugs
Hospitals are busy, especially maternity wards. So carry some eye coolers or an eye mask that will help you calm down. Earplugs can also come in handy if you want to hear something to distract yourself.
Maternity Bag for mum after Delivery:
A Nightdress
You will need something comfortable to sleep in after your delivery. Choose a soft and easy night dress with a front opening if you choose to breastfeed.
Heavy-Duty Maternity Pads
Although your hospital may provide some, pack plenty of maternity pads. It is normal for you to bleed after giving birth and for such events, heavy-duty maternity pads are the best.
Underwears
Packing several pairs of underwear that you will not mind getting messy. Make sure they are large enough for the maternity pads.
Nursing Bras
These are essential for new moms who choose to breastfeed. Make sure they are comfortable bras that are well fitted and easy to operate.
Toiletries
Don’t forget to toss in some towels, tissues, hairbrushes, toothbrushes, face wash, body wash, shampoo, hair clips, and hair ties. Pack a plastic bag as well to pop some dirty clothes in.
Last but not the least, baby clothes, diapers, and blankets.
