Why every student needs a Mentor

It is an accepted fact that common prescriptions are not suited for everyone, so why does society assume common careers are? By directing our passionate youth towards typical career paths, we are stifling their individuality and potential. Doctors help patients determine their best medical options, and the same expertise is required to help students choose their profession.

Every student has unique needs that need to be addressed individually by qualified experts who have at least a decade of experience in advising and mentoring students. In the modern-day world, students have a plethora of unverified information available to them on social media. Suddenly, vital decisions such as choosing between an IB vs CBSE school and choosing a foreign university to pursue higher education are being made without professional consultation. Whilst a beneficial decision can set them on a prosperous path for the rest of their life, a single bad decision can jeopardize their future.

However, it is important to make the distinction between a mentor and a counselor. A mentor is much more involved as compared to a plain student/career counselor with vested interests to place students in a foreign university & earn a commission. A good student mentor will do much more than just tell you what career to pursue. They will factor in your interests and capabilities to identify the optimal opportunities for a successful career. Only a skilled mentor can instill confidence and aptitude in a child, giving them the tools to overcome any obstacle thrown their way.

At WONK App, India’s largest expert tutor and activity booking app, we have one guiding principle; to help students and parents achieve their aspirations by providing access to the best resources India has to offer.
